Community Trust

A community trust ensures that the agricultural land at Southlands is used only for farming and agricultural education – in perpetuity. The trust includes a covenant registered against the title of that property.

The main objective of the trust, which is governed by local citizens, will be to make Southlands farmland available to all people for the kind of farming that enhances local food self-sufficiency and promotes community health and education.

Farming will occur at various scales, including community gardens, public allotment gardens and multi-acre farms growing produce for local markets.

Together with participation from Kwantlen’s Institute for Sustainable Horticulture and the Farmers’ Market, the plan generally supports all agriculture in Delta.
