Live-Work Residences
Over the last several years North American’s have been developing more and more ways to work from home. Whether doing so means being able to spend more time with the kids or avoiding a long-commute, the 'work-from-home' model is one of the fasting growing trends in our society.
The working development plan for Southlands is designed to encourage people to work from home wherever possible. A commitment to the environmental and community impact of reducing the amount of cars on our roads has lead to the extensive planning for spaces that make it easier to stay in town.
Unique to Tsawwassen, Southlands includes Live-Work residences. This dwelling concept allows a separate ground floor entrance for the owner to establish a business while maintaining a residence above. Live-Work spaces are adjacent to the Market Square and is consistent with our commitment to activate local employment opportunities without the need to drive.
During the planning process for the Southlands, the committee took that need into account and suggested that the building of various housing types include work from home options.
The advantages to working from home are immense. People who are able to work from home spend more time with their families, are less stressed and enjoy a more active lifestyle. In addition, these individuals who are lucky enough to work from home have bragging rights: by not driving they live 'greener' than their commuting colleagues.
