More green space than homes

I grew up in Tsawwassen in Forest By The Bay, which is situated right beside the Southlands, in the same house from the day I was born until the day I moved out at 21 years old. I am now 26 years old and my parents still live in that same house.

When I was younger the Southlands was an active farm with cows, it was nice growing up and having that kind of environment right beside me.

I do realize that the Southlands will be developed one day, and although it saddens me, I know it will happen. I hope that the developers are smart about it. I am happy to see that on this website there are plans to keep the forest intact: I feel this is very important and would cry if I saw the forest being cut down.

I'm not very happy about the plans to build apartments and townhomes. I feel Southlands would be best developed with regular housing and cottages.

A Market sounds nice as long as there is still a lot of green space. I assume that since there will be a market, a large portion of the Southlands will be kept as farmland to produce the food for this market.

I feel that Tsawwassen lacks a large park... a ‘real’ park. Yes, we have Boundary Bay, but I wouldn't count that as a park, and yes, we have Diefenbaker Park, but it's not that large. We need a nature park, which I think the Southlands could produce.

I really hope that when development does begin on this beautiful land there will still be more green space than there will be homes or other development. We need that!

Thank you,
Kelly Black
