Southlands Farmers' Market

A key component of the Market Square and Agricultural Precinct, the Southlands Farmers’ Market would be a direct to market venue for both Southlands’ and Delta farmers alike. The Farmers Market would be permanent covered structure, with opening (or open) sides to allow product to be delivered, cleaned and sorted on one side and displayed and sold on the public side.

In any given season, due to crop rotation, certain products will be grown on Southlands and other products would be brought in from elsewhere in Delta. Together, these would cover the full range of products that citizens in Tsawwassen will want to access. Other year-round production such as eggs and small-scale greenhouse production could be delivered throughout the year. Together with more traditional retailing venues (grocery stores) the farmers’ market provides a fuller range of products to buy locally.

The benefit of the Southlands Farmers’ Market is both to the consumer and to the farmer. The consumer gains access, in a pedestrian setting, to a source of nutritious, locally grown food, at reasonable prices. The farmer is able to sell direct to the consumer and keep a greater share of the proceeds.

With other components of the Market Square, the Southlands Farmers’ Market will be a benefit to the Southlands Neighbourhood and to all Tsawwassen residents.
