Century group’s proposal

- Transfer 80% of the lands to public ownership

Next steps

By creating a future for Southlands that dedicates the vast majority of land for farming, we can move forward with housing options for retirees and new families and the community moves forward from an issue that continues to divide us.

Preserving land just for agriculture is not enough. As we approach this November’s civic election, ask your politicians and political candidates what they plan to do with your land to ensure it will fulfill its potential.

I have seen many examples of local communities where farmland is about more than farming­ - communities where a culture of food and agriculture transforms its economy,­ from local restaurants to wider tourism opportunities. That, together with the opportunities in education around farming, is the true potential of community-based farming.

Don’t be underwhelmed by simplistic answers to complex questions. Please be part of the ongoing discussions for a more thoughtful future for Southlands.
