A More Complete Community

Southlands will be a new neighbourhood designed to integrate with the larger community of Tsawwassen. It will not be a gated or isolated neighbourhood. In fact, new pedestrian connections will make it easier for people to move through Southlands from upper Tsawwassen to Boundary Bay.

The intended focal point for the new neighbourhood, and a cultural destination for local residents and visitors to Tsawwassen, will be a Southlands Market Square. This civic space will be an important link between the agricultural activities on the land and the vibrancy of everyday life in Tsawwassen.

Highlights include:

  • Community trust farming
  • Southlands Farmers’ Market
  • Culinary Education Kitchen
  • Southlands Farming School
  • Tsawwassen Centre for Arts & Culture
  • Live-Work residences and artist studios
  • Market Square restaurants and shops for farm-fresh food, pharmacy, arts and crafts, tea and coffee

Southlands will produce a wide range of benefits for South Delta, protecting and enhancing our special quality of life and making Tsawwassen a more diverse, complete community. It is designed to protect ecologically sensitive areas, maintain the agricultural heritage of the area and enhance local quality of life by providing housing, amenities and culture to the region.

But Southlands cannot exist in a vacuum – as a neighbourhood it needs a connection to and integration with the larger community in order to be sustainable. In other words, one neighbourhood does not create a community - Southlands cannot exist without Tsawwassen.
